Seal Hunt: the pictures which are shouting to the world “we are not barbarians!”
5 septembre 2007
The wonderful Raoul Jomphe’s exhibition is now opened to the public! Let’s come and see it in Montreal!
“In recent decades, seal hunters have been attacked by animal rights activists who have ventured right onto the pack ice to intimidate them. These radical groups have used images that are often biased and show one side of the story only. The propaganda by animal rights advocates has hurt the seal hunt. This photographic exhibition seeks to do justice to our seal hunters. We wish to set the record straight about these men who worked so hard all their lives to feed their families.”
Raoul Jomphe and Nicolas Landry, creators of the exhibition, Phoque: la controverse
“The goal is to present the reality of the natural world without manipulating the observer’s emotions or anthropomorphizing. (…) This exhibition provides a somewhat poetic perspective on a world that animal rights activists have falsely depicted as “barbaric” and shows the harsh reality of the natural world that has been idealized by these activists for too long.”
Senator Céline Hervieux-Payette, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Guest of Honour.
